The 1st Tour of Cappadocia’s, which is the 3rd foot of the 2.2 Tour series

Mert Mutlu, who had owned the yellow jersey starting from the prologue stage
till the end of the Tour, walked to victory with his team during the whole
Tour.

Another notable success came from Mustafa Çarşı from Manisaspor as he got
both two sprint finish victory at the Tour of four days.

The 4th stage of the Tour started at 9:00am with 50 riders. With the
start,Syrian and Iraqi riders attempted to attack but every time, they got
caught by Manisaspor’s riders.

At the 34th km of the race, an attack of two occured but with the beginning
of climbing, 3 riders came from behind and caught them. This attack group of
5 pedaled together till the 40th km and got caught by the peloton at the
ascent. At the 44,8th km, the sprint point was first passed by Syria
National Team’s successful rider Jaser Nazır, while he was followed by Uğur
Marmara from Brisa Spor and Aldiwani Ahmed from Iraq National Team as the
second and the 3rd.

Meanwhile, there were riders who got behind and the peloton was dominated by
Brisaspor and Kocaeli Spor riders. Near Mert Mutlu, who was holding the
yellow jersey, all the assertive riders of the Tour could be seen including
Hamidi Shiri Sisan, Mustafa Sayar and Uğur Marmara.

60km remaining to finish, from the Ihlara intersection, the route of the
course turned back to Nevşehir. After that moment, attacks before the
mountain points were expected. Thus,  at the 75th km, attacks again came
from a Syrian as usual. Syrian Badr Eddin Ahmad, who attacked constantly
during the race, got caught as always after a while by a couple of riders
and that attack group was again got caught by the peloton. Getting closer to
the mountain points gate at the 84,9th km, the peloton formed an echelon.
Eyes were looking for Danail Andanov Petrov from Torku but Danail, who
didn’t seem that ambitious attacked late from behind. Marek Canecky, who
could constantly be realized during the race controlling every attack,
showed all such a climber he is and got the mountain points with great
comfort. Just after him, one of the most ambitious riders of the Tour, the
star of the Iran Süren continental team Hamid Shiri Sisan came second. Being
the assertive riders of the tour and strong climbers Uğur Marmara from Brisa
Spor and Mert Mutlu passed 3rd and 4th.  Mustafa Sayar from Torku constantly
followed Mert, Hamid and Uğur Marmara triad during the whole race and worked
really hard and well. Meanwhile experienced rider of Brisa Spor Nevzat Kıral
who especially worked for his team during the Tour, as always didn’t gave up
the race at the 4th stage as well.

For the riders who missed the peloton, it became harder to catch up the
peloton with average 39-40kmph because of the wind and after the mountain
prime gate, the group got back together with the peloton. 90km remaining to
the finish, the peloton was divided and an attack group of 30 occured
including as usual Mert with his yellow jersey supported by the riders from
Brisa Spor and Kocaeli Gençlik Spor. Other riders followed the race within
small groups.

Remaining 3,8km to the finish, the group formed and echelon at the slight
ascent and the velocity increased after the crossroads. As the teams formed
trains to prepare their sprinters for the finish, the most successful teams
were from Turkey. Torku Şeker prepared Miraç as Brisaspor did it for İsmail
Aksoy and Ali Rıza Tanrıverdi and Manisa Spor for Bünyamin Özdemir and
Mustafa Çarşı with the trains. The sole rider without his team was Hamid
Shiri Sisan from Iran Süren.

During the sprint ascent, the leadership challenge took place for being the
first one to pass the finish. Mustafa Çarşı and Ali Rıza Tanrıverdi shed
from the group and a huge struggle began between those two. Tanrıverdi
couldn’t prevent being beated by Çarşı while Mustafa Çarşı from Manisaspor
finished the first with 03:00:34.

Iraqi, Iranian and Syrian riders but they got over it with small scratches.

Brisaspor’s successful rider Ali Rıza Tanrıverdi who performed the explosion
expected from him finally at this stage, interviewed with us after the race
“It’s now time for me to win a stage victory. I feel really strong. I got
over with the stress occured after the crash and I’m getting way better in
form. At the last kilometers I had some difficulties with the gear but still
it was a good race. I could have won, but it didn’t happen, hopes up for the
next tour and K.A.P” he said.

Even if this is his first year, winning two stages out of 4 at this such
great tour in Cat 2.2, Mustafa Çarşı’s strength and style reminded us young
and successful Italian sprinter Guardini we know from Tour of Turkey. When
we asked him about this particular subject and the race, he told us that
first of all the race went well for him, he expected that result before the
race  and his team supported him and Bünyamin quite well. As for our
Guardini comment, he said “My name is Mustafa Çarşı, I want to be known like
this. I hope the day that they’ll be named after us will come”

Another strong sprinter of Manisaspor Bünyamin Özdemir told “No problems, at
the sprint finish two Manisaspor riders were on the podium” Manisaspor’s
Slovene manager Luca Zele seems to have done well with Manisaspor.

Another notable thing was Hamid Shiri Sisan winning the green jersey even
with the lack of support from his team Iran Süren  and his appearance on the
front lines at every stage and the podium. During our interview with Sisan,
he told us that he was happy with the results but he performed just as he
expected.

At the end of the Tour, the red jersey’s which has gone back and forth
between Danail Andanov Petrov from Konya Torku and Marek Canecky from
Manisaspor final destination was Canecky as deserved. He kept all eyes on
with his ambition, attacks and climbing performance during the Tour. Like
all the foreign riders in our teams, it was quite nice that Marek supported
the Turkish riders who wanted points for the Olympics. At the end of the
Tour, he awarded himself with the Red Mountain Jersey.

Without no doubt, the most hardworking teams at the Tour were Kocaeli
Gençlik and Brisaspor and they were quite successful at supporting Mert
Mutlu to get the yellow jersey and conserve it. Mert Mutlu, who has won the
victory of Turkey Time Trail and became the champion, awarded the yellow
jersey to Brisaspor seems great in form and seems strong. “During the whole
Tour team worked really well, of course I’m very happy” he said.

As for the Team Classification; Brisaspor is the first, while Konya Torku
Vivelo 2nd and the Manisaspor Cycling Team is the 3rd.

Abdurrahman Açıkalın, the deputy chief of Cycling Federation of Turkey and
1st Cappadocia Bike Tour race director, congratulated all riders at the end
of the race. He told that Turkey couldn’t have participated into the
Olympics for 35 years but this year we are 13th, two of our riders are
guaranteed to attend but they are aiming for one more. He added that in case
of we get the 6th place at the classification of countries this would happen
and at the points they gained at the 1st Tour of Cappadocia of Cat. 2.2 were
really  important and they’ll be working on the points till October.
