Mustafa Çarşı from Manisa Spor won the 2nd Stage of the 1st Tour of Cappadocia

The 2nd Stage of the Tour of Cappadocia in Category 2.2 was held today witnessing the challenge of the sprinters and the riders aiming for the podium.

Before the race, the podium for the winners of the prologue stage from a day before was staged where the yellow and green jerseys were presented to their owners.

The flat profiled second stage of 125.7km on the route Nevşehir-Niğde-Nevşehir started with 55 riders from 8 teams in Nevşehir. At the end of the challenging stage Mustafa Çarşı from Manisa Spor Cycling Team rushed to victory at the finish sprint with 03:07:05.The yellow jersey didn’t change hands because of the group finish thus at the 3rd stageMert Mutlu from Brisa Spor will again be wearing it. Despite of the expectations of his team Konya Torku Şeker Vivelo, his great effort and well done sprint, Mustafa Sayar finished the stage 7th and because of Hamid Shiri Sisan from Iran Süren Cycling Team finished 2nd and gained bonus seconds, he lost his 3rd place in General Classification and dropped back to 4th.

With the start of the stage of 125km, the peloton climbed the descent from 1300m to 1400m and pedaled at the fully flat course.  After 20km, the attack attempts came from Syrians but the peloton gained control over the attacks. Especially Jazer Nazır and Hasan Omer from Syria National Team and sometimes the Iraqis constantly tried attacking and we mostly saw Eyüp Karagöbek and Muhammet Atalay from Konya Torku Şeker Vivelo within those attempts. Though, even with a group of three,  a successful attack group didn’t occur to pedal strong enough.

During most of the race, even if getting help from Brisa Spor time to time, the Kocaeli Gençlik Spor team (a subdivision of Brisa Spor), which includes our national mtb riders like Bilal Akgül, Abdülkadir Kelleci and İsak Ünal pulled the peloton till the last kilometers.

The sole crash at the stage was of Hamid Mohammed (Iraq National Team) at the 68th km just after a turn. He slipped to the ground, then with the aid of the technical support vehicle, he was fastly returned to the race and joined the peloton.

About the points at the stage, no mountain primes were included. The first sprint points at the remaining 15th kilometer to Nevşehir after a turn in front of the Gölcük Mosque, had got first by Khan Shaikhouni Fad from Syria National Team followed by Uğur Marmara from Brisa Spor and Hamid Shiri Sisan. The second primes gate at the 106th km in front of the Şeker Market was passed by the star of the day Hamid Shiri Sisan from Iran Suren Team, Khan Shaikhouni Fad and Jaser Nazır.

After the last 4th km, the riders began a contstant descent and the average 40kmph speed increased up to 70-75. At the last kilometers, the thrill was at the peak and all teams generated trains in order to carry their top sprinters to the front and tried to conserve the train positions. At the points where the asphalt road was distorted, the riders had difficult moments but they got over with it without complications and rushed to the finish.

Getting closer to the finish, all sprinters came up front but with the group finish, the riders who were positioned well had the advantage. At that moment, great technique and strong muscles to pedal fast was the only issue. The one who could accomplish these was Mustafa Çarşı from Manisa Cycling Team, who was included to the team this year.

Today, Brisa Spor’s strong sprinter Alirıza Tanrıverdi was aiming to make an explosion but after the crash he had at the 2010 Tour de Morroco , his collar bone was broken and even if he recovered, he seemed he couldn’t fully get over with it since he wasn’t quite well in form.

Miraç Kal from Konya Torku again couldn’t perform as he expected at the finish and upset his fans.

Manisa Spor’s successful manager Slovene Luka Zele seems to have been good for the team since they performed a great technical tactic with staying back till the last kilometers and even if he told us that they didn’t have one when we asked their top sprinter during the interview, when we insisted on, he had told Ahmet Akdilek. As we saw at the finish and learnt during the interview after the stage,  Luka Zele was hiding young sprinter Mustafa Çarşı for the finish to go with Ahmet.  His strategy for those two was to support the better one and clear the way for him. We congratulate the manager for this successful strategy.

The yellow jersey still belongs to Mert Mutlu from Brisa Spor but the green sprint jersey changed hands to Hamid Shiri Sisan from the Iran Süren Team.

As for the team classification; Brisa Spor is the first with 09:57:1, followed by Konya Torku Şeker Vivelo with 09:57:3 and Manisa Cycling Team with 09:58:2.

After today’s stage, three of our mtb riders Bilal Akgül, Abdülkadir Kelleci and İsak Ünal opted out for the Karbük MTB race.

Mert Mutlu will try to defend the yellow jersey at the challenging third stage which has climbings up to %15. The third stage of 141km starts from Uçhisar and turns from Kalaba-Hacıbektaş-Gülşehir Nevşehir and finishes at Uçhisar passing from several historical zones and will probably state the winner of the tour.

There’s a mountain prime at the 47th km and a sprint point at the stage.

With the lead of Argeus corporation and Aydın Ayhan Güney’s successful organization and persistent attitude, at this tour, which’s Salcano Cappadocia Bike Festival’s third foot, the riders will race within Cappadocia’s magical aura.

As they told us everything is going without drawbacks and problems, Abdurrahman Açıkalın and the primary commissar of the race Luc Herpelncek seem satisfied with the progress of the Tour.
