Miraç Kal Wins the 3rd Stage of the Tour of Cappadocia, Mert Mutlu has the Yellow Jersey

The 3rd Stage of the Tour of Cappadocia started from Uçhisar with 54 riders at 13:30. Before the race, Konya Torku Şeker and Brisaspor riders enjoyed the unique beauties of the nature and history around the area. Yellow Jersey bearer Mert Mutlu from Brisaspor and Hamid Shiri Sisan, the green jersey bearer from Iran Süren team got their places on the front line and the race started in front of the Uçhisar Fortress. The route of the stage then passed from Hacıbektaş Veli and turned to Nevşehir and ended at Uçhisar, where it started at the first place.

The third stage of 141km was held on a day with cooler weather conditions when compared to the day before. After the start, the riders began with the ascent at sharp and narrow turns. At the 20km, no attacks occured and it was gratifiying that the riders got away with that part without crashes. Till the climbing started, the peloton was dominated by Brisaspor and Kocaeli Gençlik Spor riders. At the very beginning of the climbing, riders one each from teams Syria, Georgia and Iraq National got behind.

After the challenge which started at the 22,7th km of the race, before the Devebağırtan Descent Prime Gate that has an incline up to %15, Danail Andanov Petrov from Konya Torku Şeker Spor Vivelo rushed to victory and deserved to wear the red jersey. Marek Canecky from Manisaspor Cycling Team was the 2nd, yellow jersey bearer Mert Mutlu from Brisaspor 3rd and Mustafa Sayar from Konya Torku was the 4th to pass.

The peloton split at the climbing. Other attack attempts were controlled but the peloton split into two. After a little while, the group on behind caught the attack group of 18. At the other prime gate of the 3rd stage, the sprint point at the 47,3rd km, a thrilling challenge occured and Khan Shaikhoudini from Syria National Team got the 1st while Kemal Küçükbay from Brisa Spor got the 2nd and Hamid Shiri Sisan got the 3rd places. Brisaspor riders constantly stayed on the front line carrying the peloton and defending the yellow jersey bearer Mert.

The group of 40 including the yellow and green jersey bearers entered the Hacıbektaş crossroads and as always, Brisaspor riders were carrying the group. Around the 80th km, the saddle of Muhammet’s bike was torn off. For a long time he kept on racing that way till support came from Konya Torku Şeker Spor technical vehicle. With his saddle replaced, Muhammet continued racing and caught the peloton.

During the ascent starting at the 98th km, the riders speeded up to 100kmph and thankfully got over with that part of the course without crashes. As the race commissar Abdurrahman Açıkalın stated, with the racers forming an echelon at the 100km and even before that, the peloton was seperated after the start of the climbing and attacks occured. At the remaining 20th km, an attack group of 4 occured including Miraç Kal from Torku, Bünyamin Özdemir from Manisa, Nevzat Kıral from Brisa and Jaser Nazır from Syria and strong pedalling group including the yellow jersey increased the distance with the front group of 12-13 up to 45 seconds. Meanwhile, Hamid Shiri’s bike’s tire burst but after he managed to catch the front group of 12 again.

The excitement increased while the strong group of four got closer to the finish. Strong sprinter Miraç Kal from Konya Torku in that group, who especially enjoys the sprints at the slopes awarded himself and his fans the stage before he went away for his military duty. At this stage that has 1400m of altitude and average speed of 37kmph, besides the challenge between the contenders, challenge with the wind and sun took place and the strongest one to deal with those all with great success and finish first was Miraç Kal from Konya Torku Şeker Spor – Vivelo with 03:38:34 while Bünyamin Özdemir from Manisaspor finished the second and Nevzat Kıral from Brisaspor finished the third. The strong supporter of the attack group of 4, Jaser Nazır from Syria got the 4th.

Mert Mutlu from Brisa Spor got the first place at the general classification and deserved being the Yellow Jersey bearer while the second was Uğur Marmara and the third was Hamid Shiri Sisan from Iran Suren team as Nevzat Kıral from Brisa Spor who pulled Mustafa Sayar from Torku behind with his bonus time got the 4th.

 

As for the Team Classification, Brisaspor got the first place with 21:23:33, Konya Torku Şeker-Vivelo second with 21:23:58 and Manisaspor Cycling Team third with 21:24:48.

 

 

 

The last stage of the stage will be held at 9:30am on Sunday and after the stage 117th km the 1st Tour of Cappadocia will come to an end.
