Tour of Qinghai Lake: First Goal Reached for Torku Seker Spor
Tour of Qinghai Lake (TDQL) is rolling forward with Torku Seker Spor team topping the rankings. The team, now 4th in the Team General Classification, has harvested two yellow jerseys at stage 2 and 3, by David De La Fuente, the experienced Tour de France rider and combativite winner of the Tour’s 26th edition.
In front of the curious and cheering crowd, the riders have faced rigorous days on the low-temperature and rainy highland, heavy fog, long uphill climbs, and vigorous attacks in the mountains. At stage 2, they pedaled up to the 3786m-high KOM point in the foggy 8-degree mountain top, active teams like Tabriz Petrochemical Team (T.P.T), Burgos BH, La Pomme Marseille and RTS Racing Team was ceaselessly fighting for intermediate sprints and KOM points. The bunch, solid and fast (highest speed : 65km/h), was controlled by Torku Seker Spor Team, this first mountain stage ended with a downhill sprint.
“We won a little bit too soon, but with the yellow jersey, we will work more closely together for more victories and to the benefit of De La Fuente,” Torku Seker Spor Team said, while attaching the sticker no.1 on their team car. The team’s star sprinter David will try hard to defend his points.
At the 148-km stage 3, the long uphill climb to the 3757km High-mountain KOM point broke the peloton into smaller groups, with frowning and detached riders in the rain and coldness. Iranians put on an exciting show on the hills as T.P.T’s young riders Amir Kolahdozhagh and Pourseyedigolakhour Mirsamad forming a duet to lead the peloton, their widest gap reached 6’30’’ and impressively sped up in the side wind. Other riders kept on attacking for the intermediate sprints, Mirsamad, Kolahdozhagh then Torku Seker Spor’s Andrey Mizurov respectively collected the points. This harsh stage unsurprisingly saw 12 riders being fined 200CHF for sticky bottles and many ill because of the coldness and highland racing.
Riders should not expect to rest their legs soon. Stage 4 will start with 142 surviving riders (primarily registered 150) into one of the longest race of this year’s Tour of Qinghai Lake – 227km including two High Mountain KOMs, 3817m and 3847m respectively, awaiting more exciting attacks and changes on the podium.
As the race passing along Qinghai Lake, the teams are targeting their dangerous challengers, with the “target numbers” on riders’ bikes.
We are still in the early stages of the TDQL, there’s still a lot to play!
