Tour of Qinghai Lake Finishes at High Speed

121 contenders from 22 teams of the highly competitive Tour of Qinghai Lake (TDQL) reached the last finish line with a breathtaking bunch sprint in the heart of Lanzhou city. Iranian T.P.T’s 27-year-old Pourseyedigolakhour Mirsamad successfully reached the “3-jersey victory”-Yellow, KOM and Blue- became the top winner of the race.

The riders raced in urban areas with cheering crowds in the past three days. Stage 11 and 12 saw teams attacking the King Sprinter Sacha Modolo’s team Bardiani Valvole CSF-Inox for points and stage win, but the “green team” had the poker in the hands and made it to bring Modolo to the best position before the finish line. The top sprinter secured the placing by winning his sixth stage in this year’s TDQL. The speed as high as 58km/h was recorded as a proof of team’s strong desire to capture victories.

Saying that “After five wins it was the responsibility of other teams that have not yet won”, Modolo seized the opportunity of standing on the top of the podium when he felt the whole team was in great shape and the time had come to him again. Modolo, the green jersey winner, preliminarily aimed at winning one or two stages, is now the rider who has won the most stages in one edition of TDQL (Allan Davis, 2007 and Lukas Mezgec, 2012 won 5 stages). The record has rewarded his excellent sprinting capability.

At the finishing stage 13, intense battles such as in team classification went on to the very last moment. Astana 2 was only 16 seconds back to the leading Tabriz Petrochemical Team, but was unable to beat the team. Former green jersey wearer Luis Guillermo Mas Bonet (Burgos BH), stage contenders such as Floris Goesinnen (Drapac) and Rico Rogers (Baku Synergy) all surged for the win.

In this year’s TDQL, former overall winners Andrey Mizurov (Torku Seker, 2009), Hossein Askari (T.P.T, 2010), Gregor Gazvoda (Champion System, 2011) and Hossein Alizadeh (Amore e Vita, 2012) were all in the line-up. As the race reached record high altitude, long distance and level of the teams, the commissaire expects that the race invite more Pro Tour teams and reduce the transfer, then the increased intensity would be more attractive and impressive.
