Tour of Gallipoli Stage 4 : İsmail Aksoy Wins the Stage. The Victorious of the Tour is Recep Ünalan
4th and the last stage of the Tour of Gallipoli was held today with 42 racers. As expected, Recep Ünalan (Manisaspor) defended the Yellow Jersey at the flat sprint stage of 90km and won the Tour victory. İsmail Aksoy, racing for the Turkish National Team (originally from Brisaspor) won the stage with 02:12:18 and also got the Green sprint Jersey. Red Jersey was also defended by Vahid Gaffari (Iran Süren Team).
With the start from Çanakkale Centre, peloton pedaled as a group and Manisaspor controlled the pace during the whole stage. Besides a couple of weak ones, no serious attacks occured. Manisaspor worked for the Yellow Jersey bearer Recep Ünalan and brought him to the finish in Çanakkale. After the u-turn at Lapseki, at the 39.1st km the first sprint primes were passed and İsmail Aksoy (Brisaspor) attacking at the last 150m won the first prime. Ali Rıza Tanrıverdi (Brisaspor) and Egor Dementyev (Ukrainia) followed him respectively.
After the sprint primes, the peloton got back together again and proceeded to the mountain primes at a flat road. Proceeding to the mountain primes, the peloton formed an echelon and climbers came up front. Blaz Frudi and Blaz Jarc from Slovenia were the first ones to pass. The third was Hamid Gaffari.
After the mountain primes, Brisaspor raised tactical attacks but none were allowed by Manisaspor.
At the last 10km the peloton increased pace and all teams prepared their sprinters for the group finish. At the finish line, with a ruthless struggle, all pedaled for victory but at the last moment İsmail Aksoy from Brisaspor rushed to victory but after passing the finish line, he got stuck between the crowded peloton and slipped down but he even fell professionally and got away from the crash without serious injuries.
At the end of the race, İsmail got what he wanted and he told that he was extremely happy and thanked his team Brisaspor.
The hero of the Tour was Recep Ünalan from Manisaspor who pedaled like a pro team rider and he presented his Yellow Jersey to Manisaspor at the end of the Tour. Emphasizing the importance of being a team, after acknowledging his team, he stated that they had been aiming for the Yellow Jersey from the beginning of the Tour and achieving that goal was pretty gratifying.
With Andanov and Eyüp Karagöbek leaving the team, and Miraç Kal being away for the military duty, Konya Torku Şeker Spor lacking riders, worked hard during the stage but they couldn’t get what they wanted. Mustafa Sayar was the one to carry all the weight on his shoulders and got over a crash but he still had the best degree among the team.
At the end of the stage, after İsmail Aksoy Slovenian Aljaz Hocevar finished the second and Alexandr Suritkovic (Azerbaijani National Team) finished the third. Ukrainian Egor Dementyev, Ali Rıza Tanrıverdi (Brisaspor) and Serbian sprinter Marco Stankoviç followed them respectively. Recep Ünalan, the victorious of the Tour finished the stage 15th.
Despite of having discomforts, Brisaspor’s strong rider Nazım Bakırcı gathered strength and succeeded in finishing the Tour 5th, gaining points. At the end of the race the awards were presented to the winners by local authorities and the Head of the Cycling Federation Emin Müftüoğlu.
The 2.2 series’ (7 races) last foot will be the Tour of Alanya. It’ll start on Thursday, the 6th of October.
